W.S. Gilbert: Sketch Artist

http://math.boisestate.edu/gas/trial/html/bab.html

William S. Gilbert  was known to many by his childhood nickname, Bab.  He wrote an extensive collection of short stories collectively entitled the "Bab Ballads", many of which informed parts of the Savoy Operas.  With a number of these stories went sketches in Gilbert's hand called the "Bab Illustrations."  The link above connects to the six Bab Illustrations that go with the Trial by Jury.  You will notice each image is signed "Bab".

On a fun side-note, the identification of these six illustrations is credited to Diana Burleigh, who was my director for The Gondoliers at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Buxton, England in August, 2010.
